1978 Arnold Harris : DC Super Heroes Bread Stickers
The DC Super Heroes sticker-card set was distributed by various brands of
bread in 1978. Each specially marked loaf of bread contained one sticker-card.
According to the biography
Dick Giordano: Changing Comics, One Day at a Time
by Michael Eury, the entire series of 30 sticker-cards was illustrated by Dick
Giordano.
The stickers measure approximately 2.25 x 3 inches, slightly smaller than a standard trading card. The collection was produced by Arnold Harris
Associates Inc. in Cherry Hill, NJ. The Super Heroes Fun Book & Checklist is a ten-page activity brochure that was availably at participating retailers.
The Fun Book has a copyright date of 1976.
The stickers are branded with logos from Langendorf, Sunbeam, or Taystee. Stickers
without a bread logo were distributed by Schmidt's Blue Ribbon and various
other brands in North America. The paper stickers are susceptible to staining from bread oil, humidity, and mold.
Uncut sheets of twelve stickers have been observed in private collections. The
Dick Giordano artwork later appeared in DC Comics Cartes de Jeu, a card game distributed by Auchan in France.
