1993 SkyBox : DC Bloodlines Trading Cards

DC Bloodlines Trading Cards were released by SkyBox International in July 1993. Each box contains 36 packs with 8 cards per pack. The series is comprised of 81 base cards and 4 embossed foil inserts. The card artworks were created exclusively for SkyBox. The card text was written by Ruben Diaz. The series was designed by Arnie Sawyer Studios, Inc. The backs of cards #1–54 assemble a large puzzle illustrated by Christian Alamy.

Promotional materials and special inserts focus on "The Reign of the Supermen!" storyline. The crossover appeared in the annual editions of all four Superman titles published in 1993. Cyborg Superman, Eradicator, Steel, and Superboy (Kon-El) appear on embossed foil cards inserted in approximately 1:18 packs. The original artworks have been observed in private collections.

The alternate Supermen appear in four-card promo sets. The Return of Superman Limited Collector's Set includes a four-card cello pack of unnumbered cards copyrighted 1993. Superboy is labeled as "The Metropolis Kid" on unnumbered 1993 promo cards. Four-card cello packs included with The Return of Superman Collector's Set trade paperback are copyrighted 1994. The 1994 cards do not contain a Bloodlines logo. Autographed promo cards were authenticated by Dynamic Forces, Inc. and each serial numbered #/1993.

An embossed promo card showcases the first four collector's edition covers of "The Reign of the Supermen!" The promo card was packaged with poly-bagged editions of The Adventures of Superman #500, on sale April 15, 1993.

The back of the promo card asks, "Which, if any, is the real Man of Steel?" The correct answer is none. "The One True Superman" was available through a mail-away redemption that expired on January 15, 1994. Odds of finding the foil "Superman Redemption Card" are approximately 1:72 packs.

"The One True Superman" is an embossed foil card featuring artwork penciled by Kerry Gammill and inked by Jackson "Butch" Guice. "The One True Superman" was also distributed at various industry events by SkyBox.

Many of the "New Blood" characters that were introduced during the Bloodlines event did not remain in the DC Multiverse continuity. A nine-card Bloodlines subset appears in the 2014 Cryptozoic DC Comics Epic Battles series. In 2016, the concept was revamped as a six-part comic book series during the "New 52" era.
