1994 SkyBox : DC Stars Trading Cards

DC Stars Trading Cards were released by SkyBox International in early 1994. The card series was exclusive to Wal-Mart stores. All of the card artwork is reprinted from comic books, DC Cosmic Cards, DC Cosmic Teams, and various promotional materials. The box and pack wrapper images were illustrated by José Luis García-López. A collector album was sold separately by Wal-Mart.

DC Stars was sold in 18-pack booster boxes or 96-pack feeder boxes. The series is comprised of 45 base cards, nine puzzle cards, and four "Foil Stars" inserts. Each pack contains five cards and a puzzle piece. "Foil Stars" insert odds are approximately 1:20 packs.

DC Stars features the first appearance of Batman and other Gotham City characters in a modern DC Universe trading card series. The Topps Company previously controlled card licensing for the Tim Burton Batman film series.

Superman appears on three different cards: Card #1 reprints artwork from the DC Cosmic Teams series penciled by Dan Jurgens and inked by Rick Burchett.

The center puzzle card P5 features an image by Jon Bogdanove from the Better Than Ever Superman limited edition art portfolio.

Foil card F1 depicts a DC Style Guide image of Superman by José Luis García-López. According to García-López, "Joe Orlando, in charge of licensing at that time, asked me to imitate Jon Bogdanove's style."
