1996 Fleer/SkyBox : Amalgam Comics Trading Cards

Amalgam Comics Trading Cards were released by Fleer/SkyBox International on February 28, 1996. The card text was written by Barbara Kesel. There are 24 packs per box and each pack contains 7 cards. Amalgam Comics preview cards were included with Hobby packs of DC versus Marvel Comics Trading Cards, released on December 13, 1995.

Amalgam Comics was joint publishing venture between DC Comics and Marvel Comics. Popular characters from both companies were merged together, first appearing during the DC versus Marvel Comics crossover event. A total of 24 one-shot issues were produced from 1996–1998.

Super-Soldier is a combination of Superman and Captain America, first appearing in Marvel Comics versus DC #3 (April 1996). The origin story is told in the one-shot Super-Soldier #1 (April 1996), written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. During World War II, Clark Kent was injected with a super-solder serum containing alien DNA from a crashed rocket ship. Following a battle with Ultra-Metallo, Super-Soldier spent five decades in suspended animation before returning in the 1990s.

The fictional "Mail Call" section of Super-Soldier #1 teases a second issue and a villain named Doomnaut, an amalgamation of Doomsday and Juggernaut. The imaginary fight would precede a multipart "Reign of the Super-Soldiers" by Waid and Gibbons, a reference to the "Reign of the Supermen!" event. Super-Soldier later appeared with Sgt. Rock and His Howling Commandos in the one-shot Super-Soldier: Man of War #1(June 1997).

"Secret Crisis of the Infinity Hour" Canvas Cards are inserted in approximately 1:5 packs. The Canvas Cards form a nine-piece image painted by Dave Dorman.

Power Blast Amalgam Classics are inserted in approximately 1:5 packs. The nine-card series features classic DC and Marvel comic book covers reimagined to depict Amalgam characters and events. Super-Soldier Action #1 was penciled by Dave Gibbons, inked by Gary Martin, and colored by Electric Pickle. The image is based on the cover of Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941), originally penciled by Jack Kirby and inked Joe Simon.

Judgment League: Avengers #4 is based on the cover of The Avengers #4 (March 1964), originally penciled by Jack Kirby and inked by George Roussos.

Holopix card odd are approximately 1:12 packs. The six holographic cards feature Wonder Woman, Dark Claw, Magneto, Speed Demon, Spider-Boy, and Super-Soldier.
