1996 Fleer/SkyBox : DC Outburst: Firepower
"Feel Them All For The First Time!"
DC Outburst: Firepower Trading Cards were released by
Fleer/SkyBox
in February 1996. The set was advertised as "DC Comics' First Totally Embossed
Trading Card Set." The series is comprised of 80 base cards, 20 "Maximum
Firepower" inserts, and 2 "HoloBurst" chase cards.
DC Outburst: Firepower was originally designed as a card game that was
reworked into the DC OverPower CCG.
Superman is featured on eight different cards in this series, appearing on
four base cards. The backs of the base cards contain a profile entry from
the "Oracle Database."
Foil-stamped "Maximum Firepower" cards are inserted in
approximately 2:3 packs. Superman appears on four of the twenty different "Maximum Firepower" cards.
"HoloBurst" inserts feature a holographic image of
Superman or Batman. The odds of finding a "HoloBurst" hologram are
approximately 1:36 packs. The "HoloBurst" inserts were illustrated by Rod
Whigham and colored by Stu Suchit and American Bank Note.
Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman each appear on unnumbered promo cards. Uncut 4-card promo sheets, measuring 5 x 7 inches, were distributed to dealers.
Artworks commissioned for DC Outburst: Firepower were later printed in Promo DC Super Heroes, a trading card series distributed in the Argentine Republic by VienĂssima.
